Amanda Sexton is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia, bringing a wealth of experience and compassion to her work with clients. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a minor in Human Services from Old Dominion University and her Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University.
Amanda began her career in mental health as a paraprofessional in substance abuse at a local community service board, where she worked closely with adults struggling with substance use, misuse, and co-occurring mental health disorders. This experience solidified her dedication to helping individuals overcome their personal challenges and navigate the complexities of recovery.
While completing her Master’s Degree, Amanda transitioned into private practice, where she has worked with a diverse range of populations, including children, adolescents, and adults. She offers both individual and family counseling, creating personalized treatment plans that focus on each client’s unique needs.
Amanda has treated a wide variety of mental health disorders, including ADHD, depression, and bipolar disorder, with a special interest in trauma and anxiety-related conditions. Her therapeutic approach combines Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with person-centered therapy, helping clients challenge negative thought patterns while receiving empathetic, individualized care. Amanda also integrates solution-focused therapy, reality therapy, and exposure therapy when appropriate, ensuring her clients receive well-rounded support.
Amanda is deeply passionate about seeing her clients overcome the obstacles they face, no matter the challenge. She believes in empowering others to find strength and healing within themselves, walking alongside them on their journey toward mental wellness.
Outside of her professional life, Amanda is a wife, mother of two, pastor’s wife, and author. She is actively involved in the recovery community and serves as a member of the board of ASAC, a regional prevention and substance abuse coalition. Amanda is also the president and founder of Healing in the Hills, a local substance abuse coalition located in Buchanan County. Her commitment to community outreach and advocacy highlights her dedication to helping others thrive, both in her counseling work and beyond.
